If it will not be too steep or too icy to bring the ice axe, but you want something shorter and similar to plunge into the snow for self-arresting purposes?
This SplitboardUpgrades designed 16mm Whippet Point allows you to remove the lower two sections of your Whippet Self-Arrest Pole and continue with the upper section with the Whippet Pick attached.
Issues with other versions of this product include the whippet clamp being damaged from plunging, the whippet point falling out and/or the whippet clamp falling off.
This upgraded version includes a larger point outer diameter to protect the clamp during plunging, as well as an index pin that prevents you from loosing the whippet clamp and the 16mm Point itself. Even if the clamp is loose/not adjusted correctly, the 16mm Point can only be removed by fully opening the clamp to allow for the index pin to slide back out under the clamp cam. The 16mm Point can also be easily secured to the Whippet Spike via a mini carabiner (not included).
Alternate version available: Includes a threaded hole to accept replaceable carbide tech tips. A 3D resin print using PA/Nylon like material is a viable option for this version.
Material Options Available: Anodized 7075 Aluminum (~22g), Anodized 6061 Aluminum (~22g), SLA Resin Print (~9.5g), BD Carbide Tech Tip (6.7g)
